Follow These Steps Before Calling for AC Repair

No one likes to think about their air conditioner breaking down, especially with our hot summers here in Orlando, FL, and when they do happen, they seem to happen right in the middle of a heat wave when you need the problem fixed as quickly as possible. But some problems are actually quite simple to address, and can be fixed with a little troubleshooting on your part. Before you call in a repair service, take the time to follow these simple steps. You won’t lose much time if the problem still demands professional attention, and you may save yourself the cost of an unnecessary service call.

Is the Thermostat Set Properly?

The thermostat can easily be set improperly, or someone else in the household may have changed the settings without you knowing about. Sometimes just brushing against the thermostat is enough to accidentally shut it off and create the impression of a much larger problem. Always check the thermostat first before moving on to other steps. In some cases, the problem may lie in the thermostat itself rather than the system. An examination of the thermostat should reveal that, as well as whether it simply needs new batteries or if a trained technician should taken a look at it.

Has the Circuit Breaker Been Tripped?

The circuit breaker leading to your air conditioner may have tripped as a result of an unexpected power surge in your electrical system, or you may be looking at an electrical problem in the air conditioner itself. Either way, you should check the breaker box and reset the switch if it’s been turned, then run t the system for 10-15 minutes to make sure the switch doesn’t trigger again. If it doesn’t, you’ve likely solved the problem. If it does, then you should call in a repair service.

Downtown Air and Heat is standing by to help you with air conditioning repair!
