Signs that You Need Duct Repair

Longwood, FL residents are in the midst of preparing for another long, hot summer, which means making sure their air conditioners are in working order. But your inspection and analysis shouldn’t be limited to the air conditioner itself. Your ducts, which take conditioned air from the central unit to the rest of your house, can suffer from damage and wear just like any other component, and when they run into trouble, it can seriously impact the efficiency of your system. A trained technician can repair damaged ducts, but before you can call one in, you need to spot the signs of duct repair yourself. Here’s a few common ones to look for.

Strange Noises

A breach in the ducts can create vibrations, hums or whistles as conditioned air is pulled out or unconditioned air is dragged in. You can usually hear the sound at the spot of the breach: through the walls or perhaps in the attic. The sound will stop when you turn off the system, and you shouldn’t turn it on again until after you summon a repair technician.

Warm or Cold Spots

Conditioned air – either hot from your heater or cold from your air conditioner – may be pulled out of the system with a breach, and in some cases may blow straight onto the nearby wall or floor if it’s in the attic. That will create a warm spot or a cold spot that you’ll be able to feel if you press your palm to it.

Low Air Flow

Sometimes, the problem isn’t a breach in the ducts, but something blocking the inside: build-up or perhaps a dent on the surface. In those cases, you can spot the problem by checking for reduced air flow coming out of one of more of the vents.

Downtown Air & Heat can repair damaged ducts for you.
