Is Your Air Conditioner at the End of Its Tenure?

As summer winds down here in Orlando, you may have come to realize that your current AC may not have another cooling season in it. However, this can be hard to admit if the unit is still running and providing you with at least some relief from the heat. However, just because your air conditioner is running doesn’t mean it is running well or that it isn’t time for replacement. Here are some key factors to weigh when deciding whether or not it is time to upgrade to a new AC before next cooling season:

Are you facing repairs?

A broken fan belt is one thing, a malfunctioning compressor is another. When looking at repairs, you need to review the following kinds of things: did you have to make a lot of repairs this past season that cost a lot of money? Are you looking at continued repairs? Are you looking at having to make a single very large repair in order to keep your AC running? If these costs add up to a little more than half of what a new system would cost, you may be better off putting your money toward the new system.

How is the performance?

Is your air conditioner barely cooling off your home? Is the cooling even and consistent? How high are your energy bills? As large home systems like your air conditioning system age, the different components break down. This contributes to poor performance and higher energy usage. It may not be worthwhile to keep a system that isn’t performing as needed in operation.

How old is your system?

The average lifespan for a traditional air conditioning system is 10-15 years. If your AC has reached the 10 year point, it is likely not worth it to spend a lot of money keeping it running.

The trained experts at Downtown Air and Heat can help you determine whether or not it is time to replace your AC in Orlando. Just give us a call!
